Memo To The Mayor: Stop The Harassment - Start Communicating With Village Trustees & Manager

Late last evening my husband gave me a message that a Village police officer had called advising me that, although the officer said, "This really isn't a police matter," you had instructed him to notify the Board of Trustees that you wished to hold an "emergency" meeting today at 8:00 AM.

In the year and a half that you have been Mayor, Gordon, how many times have you called me on the phone notify me of any meeting? Zero. Instead, you have taken it upon yourself to file a frivolous and wasteful lawsuit against your own fellow members of the Board of Trustees.

You are aware that most members of the Board of Trustees have jobs. It is inconsiderate of you to issue orders for working people to show up, on little or not notice, to hear about your desire to rescind a matter upon which the Board of Trustees has already duly deliberated and voted.

If you wish the board to consider a motion to reconsider a matter that has previously been decided, under Roberts’ Rules of Order you may ask the maker of that motion to do so at the next regular meeting. If there were truly an "emergency" that could not wait, it is your obligation as Mayor to work with the Board of Trustees, at least to the extent of taking time out of your own schedule to call us and explain the nature of the emergency.

The meeting you have proposed for this morning can not be lawfully convened on such short notice. Your wish to stop ongoing investigations of wrong-doing is not an emergency and does not merit the time of Trustees, or the Police Department, especially since we have already voted and decided this matter. There is more important business for the Village of Monticello than listening to your defensive and accusatory nonsense.

Please cease and desist your harassment and micro-management of members of the Board of Trustees, the Village Manager, and other Village employees immediately. If there ever comes a time when a true emergency arises which requires the board's attention, you have our phone numbers.
